indulgences

Tonight I am NOT going to indulge in self-pity
about the (insert rude word here) new Finance System.

To prevent myself from doing this
(which is very tempting)
I will take a tip from my dear friend, Nancy,
and make a list of small indulgences

1.
Jade nail polish for toes

2.
Carmine asters in a blue jug

3.
White sun dried sheets

4.
Opening the back door
to look at the pale rain-washed sky.

5.
Creamy mounds of vanilla frappucino

6.
Stroking the visiting tortoiseshell cat

7.
A message to MasterM.
"I raise you a brown bulldog in a green swing"

8.
Talking autumn clothes strategy with MissM.
"grey is the way forward"

9.
Looking through my collection of photos
of blue Portuguese tiles.
(It's large)

10.
A tray of perfect red strawberries
- a gift for our new neighbours.

Right - that's enough.
I feel better already.

I will call the helpdesk tomorrow.

  2. Have already gone some way to adopting that self-same clothing strategy but now feel emboldened to extend it into autumn and winter. Helpdesk had me chortling. Where do you find these things? I'm glad you have a visiting cat to stroke. Ours has been a sanity saver of late.

    1. They flutter onto my desk by a variety of routes and sometimes get put in the file marked 'Laterz'

  3. I'm loving these lists of small indulgences and feeling inspired to create my own... although so far mine seem to consist of rather a lot of food!

    1. I tried to restrain myself to a low calorie list and almost managed it.

  4. I'm sure the helpdesk will solve your problem? I'm admiring pink roses, a bowl of tiny very sweet apricots, and looking forward to a day out at the Festival of Quilts on Thursday, before I ring the bank about a complete mess with some standing orders :-)

    1. I did not share the small dog wrapped in a handmade scarf which I thought showed admirable restraint.

  7. I was worried that if I admitted to eating cheese and onion crisps *someone* might suggest that they were not proper food...

  8. I remember several years ago, after having half a day's training on the ridiculous university finance system in my new job, bumping into a man who had recently started coming to our church. We exchanged pleasanteries, before he asked me what I'd been doing that morning.

I regaled him with my opinions on said ridiculous finance system, and how I had managed to pay wages and freelance earnings for an entire organisation in my previous employment but now couldn't even book a hotel room without professional help.

"And what do you do here?" I finished.

"I'm the Head of Finance," he replied.

He's a good friend of Mr Coffee's now. I'm not sure he even remembers the conversation, and I'm not about to ask him.

    1. PLEASANTERIES. Oh dear, oh, oh, dear.

      I have had wine.

    2. Regret to advise that I have had a similar conversation but the difference is that I knew that the other person was the Project Manager for the New Finance system. It was not pleasant.

  9. Wait now - I have had wine of both colours - um,
1 - can't reach toes 'cos of scoliosis.

2 - can't do any of those other things either.

3 - buggering off now then...

  10. I just discovered this blog today and you have made my day with your list of indulgences. We;re in winter here in Tasmania. Dark, cold, though sun trying hard to emerge. Love things like this list especially in winter. I am in my 60's but think I may still do the jade toenails. Love it. Thank you! Pam That;s Penguin Pam to other bloggers and my friends ;-)

  11. Oh, I meant to ask about those tiles -- aren't they amazing? Did you go to the museum? Isn't Portugal like an odd other world? How did they come to cover buildings with ceramic tiles? Wonderful.
