The Student Experience (2)

I am very sorry but I will not be able to attend tomorrows lecture as I have managed to stupidly give myself food poisoning . But I will ensure someone gets me a hand out and I catch up on what I have missed. Very sorry again, will cook chicken more thoroughly from now on.

    In one holiday job (Edinburgh, Gas Board, Debt Control, filing clerk) back in the '60s, I read a letter explaining why one woman hadn't paid her gas bill: she was "under the doctor with diarrhoea". Thankfully she didn't explain what she would be doing in future to ensure it didn't happen again.

    Wonderful. Best excuse I've ever heard was ' I'm sorry I can't get there before the deadline for my essay submission - I have a hairbrush stuck in my hair and I have to go to the hairdresser to get it cut out..?

    May I say in reply to Jane that this happened to me once with a spiral hairbrush! It was wound so closely and tightly to the scalp that I had to cut it out and had a very silly short tuft for months. You'd have to be very brave to carry it off as a trendy new hair accessory.
