The Spice Girl's Mother

Girl with a Guitar
Max Westfeld 1913

MissM
Can we talk about my birthday present?

MrsM
Yes!
(Thinks how delightful it is to have organised daughter)

MissM
I would like a guitar.

MrsM
What!
(Stunned silence)

MissM
Yes! I have been learning to play
and I am in a band.

MrsM
A band!
(Thinks panicky thoughts about wardrobe issues.
What does the mother of a Rock Chick wear?)

  1. I wish that I had a MissM.
I say, give her anything she wants..well, of course within limits..but those limits should be wide and long. Wide and long...golden and blue...and she must check in every evening. For certain.

  2. All you need is a confident attitude, and you'll be good.

  3. For some reason I am picturing a Pleather jumpsuit and boots with very high heels. Which I realize suddenly sounds rather Mrs. Peel-ish...

I myself have no time to think about my own mother-of-the-drummer wardrobe, as I am too busy being distracted by the alterations that the drummer wishes to make to his own appearance, which include pierced eyebrows and hair colors not found in nature. Please pray for me.

  4. I had not considered my mother-of-a-drummer role. Drat. Thankfully aside from hair cutting resistance, the drummer in question seems fairly sartorially neutral. Phew. Jeans it is then.

The thing that worries me most is that the band (and I know there will be one) are going to end up practising at my house. At least she waited till she was at University - very thoughtful girl.
