Burglar Bill
Allan and Janet Ahlberg
Allan and Janet Ahlberg
Here I am!
My planned absence gallivanting in France
had an unplanned extension due to
a home visit from the Criminal Fraternity.
They took, amongst other things, our laptops
which is why I have not been able to write.
which is why I have not been able to write.
I could list the items that they took
or describe the mess that they made
or add up the time that it has taken
to deal with the police and insurance
but I want to stop thinking about it now.
but I want to stop thinking about it now.
So, here I am, writing on MrM's new laptop,
not my new laptop which arrives tomorrow,
but it feels like another step away
from the horrible moment when MrM said
"We've been burgled."
It's good to be back.
"We've been burgled."
It's good to be back.
Oh that's awful! Glad you're back.
ReplyDeleteThat is awful news.
ReplyDeleteBut let's not dwell - it does no good.
You ought to rearrange the furniture after all is set right. It'll help.
xo
I agree with blackbird...rearrange the furniture a bit. I'm sorry about the loss...glad you are back though, I've missed you.
ReplyDeleteOh boy. It's not the stuff they take as much as the feeling that intruders have been in your most private place.
ReplyDeleteAs others have said I am glad you are back too.
Oh no, that's horrible. I have been thinking of you and windering whether all was well. Clearly not. Moving swiftly on ... Perhaps coffee and walnut cake would help?
ReplyDeleteIt is a sickening feeling, isn't it? Wonderful to "see" you again, Alice.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see you back among us - and so sorry to hear you've had such a tortuous journey to get here
ReplyDeleteOh no! How dreadful. Agree with suggestions of furniture rearrangement and large slice of cake. K xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrible experience for you Alice. Sending love and hugs.
ReplyDeleteTruly horrible. I'm glad though that no one was there at the time and that you are safely back.
ReplyDeleteOh, Alice, such horrid news. The worst kind of violation.
ReplyDeleteGood to have you back x
So sorry. x
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry - that is an awful thing to happen. Really glad to have you back - you have been missed.
ReplyDeletePomona x
Oh, I am so sorry . It's lovely to have you back though. Hope the dust settles quickly and that you, too, can settle. Much love Penny L in Dorsetxx
ReplyDeleteoh Alice, I'm so sorry. it's truly horrid. take care. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrid welcome home. You are so right to move on and not allow it to get the better of you. Nobody got hurt, that is the main thing.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to having your posts back when you are up and running with your new laptop.,
Oh good grief that is awful, have a good clear out and a scrub, it will help with the feeling of being invaded.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Do hope your new laptop is fast and fun and helps make up for the other losses.
ReplyDeleteoh that is awful. Hope you can put it behind you and return to normality soon.
ReplyDeleteVery sorry to hear about this upsetting experience, but I'm glad to hear you are moving forward into new adventures!!
ReplyDeleteOh Alice, that is such a sad story. I hope that you can surmount the negative feelings and start to get your lives back in order.
ReplyDeleteSending hugs.
Oh Alice,
ReplyDeleteHow awful for you all. At least no-one got hurt.
Tea and cake until you feel better a must I think. Hope it all settles down soon for you. Looking forward to you posting with your new laptop.
We were burgled once. The policeman looked into the spare room and said "woah, they made one heck of a mess in here...". We had to admit that actually that was the one room that appeared to be untouched.
ReplyDeleteReally sympathise with you. Horrid feeling. Glad you are back though, having been having withdrawal symptoms.
How awful -- ugh.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're back --
Oh Alice, how terrible. I know from experience what a gamut of emotions are caused by burglary and that's before you run through the various shades of rage against the perpetrators. I do hope you haven't lost anything with great sentimental value and the damage is minimal.
ReplyDeleteGood to have you back.
Oh Alice - how truly horrid. x
ReplyDeleteI can only repeat what everyone else has said. It is such an awful invasion of a very special placed called HOME.
ReplyDeleteHi. My name is Jane and it was me who told you that my husband had recently died and you followed it up with that very moving post about comments- just thought I'd introduce myself, since here I am, commenting again. This is terrible news about your burglary, but I wonder whether burglars are now doing "internet shopping"? It is easier for burglars to know when the house is empty. Many bloggers include pictures of their lovely homes and even lovelier contents. It's a horrible thought, but it has made me realise that there is no doubt many a Burglar Bill out there, keeping an eye on the comings and goings of people with nice homes. How sad.
ReplyDeleteOh I am so sorry! That's got to be so hard! The idea of some thief entering my house is bad enough, but to take my computer! Ouch! So much of my life is there that if it were to suddenly vanish, I would be like Rod McKuen when someone stole his address book, I would have to see who contacted me! You always give me a lot to think about, and even in your disaster, your sharing it has given me a warning. Thanks again for all you generosity over time, and I'm sorry for your trouble! And so very glad you are back!
ReplyDeleteYou have my most profound sympathy. Such a horrible experience. I was burgled twice within a few months, years ago, and I don't think I'm quite over it yet.
ReplyDeleteA nightmare.
ReplyDeleteSorry Alice.
Missed you. So sorry that this happenrd to you.
ReplyDeleteMercy! that's just awful.
ReplyDeleteoh no that happened to me two years ago and lost all the boys photos... the moral of the story... I hope you backed up all your files!
ReplyDeletebig hug.
I missed this. I know how this feels, from a good while ago now. The world is sadly full of cowardly types with little wit and no morals. Thank goodness that is counterbalanced by the lovely Mr, Mrs, Master and Miss M's of this world.
ReplyDeleteThe mistake I made was not to replace everything ... that was the very last time I owned a bicycle and I miss it still!
