and in another part of the forest

MasterM has been travelling in South America
acting as translator and guide
for friends from South Africa,

Here they are in the silver mines of Potosi, Bolivia,
a place of noise, dirt and danger
which made a great impression on them all.

Tonight he is back in Stellenbosch
and messages to ask my advice on design.

What colour embroidery should he choose
to go with his maroon golf tie?

I suggest yellow for an 'unforgettable' effect.

I did not know what it would be like to have an adult son
but I did not expect to be thinking about golf ties.

In South Africa.

  1. Also fantastic --

For various reasons, N has still not gone to South America -- I don't know if I should or shouldn't advise her to visit the silver mines of Potosi . . .

    1. I suspect that if MasterM was impressed by how dangerous the mines were you may prefer to recommend Copacabana beach.

One never knows what to expect and one attempts to not be surprised.

  3. South America is a great place to visit, indeed. I never stop in regular hotels and resorts when I travel because chilling out by the pool and hanging out in hotel bars wouldn't give you an idea of what the place is really like. It's kinda dangerous to travel without guidance, but I don't see the point in traditional style of traveling. One just has to be extra careful (http://www.askwiki.net/How-to-Travel-As-an-American-in-Developing-Countries - kinda helpful thing to read for travelers) and get an insurance and necessary meds. By the way, South Africa is my next destination after I've watched this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Uee_mcxvrw
    Crazy South African guys!

    1. I absolutely agree with the need for travel insurance - it is a great reassurance when MasterM is in the back of beyond. Anyone reading this who is planning a trip off the beaten track in South America should check the kidnap and ransom clause in their policy and make sure that the area they are travelling to is covered.

    1. Regret to advise that maroon colour is the most agreeable aspect of aforementioned tie.
