View from a Turkish Tent

We spent the afternoon in Painshill Park,
wandering from Gothic temple to Crystal grotto
and then on to the extravagant Turkish tent.
The Grand Tour compressed into three hours.

The last time I came here was a school trip
with a tiny MasterM and his friends
and I was afraid it would make me sad
but I could only hear excited little boys
running across the Chinese Bridge.
It was a memory to make us smile.

We climbed to the top of the tower
and looked out across green landscape,
Canary Wharf was somewhere on the hazy horizon
but we could only guess which direction.

It was a peaceful afternoon
at the start of autumn.
Just MrM and I.

I bought a card in the gift shop
illustrated with the Iris Murdoch quotation:
"You can only learn to love by loving".
A lifetime compressed into eight words.

  1. Great minds! I was at Painshill this afternoon too, it was beautiful

  2. It really is a privilege to be able to visit a delicious place via the lens of an empathetic blogger... great photos and a lovely quote noted. My love for the UK is only heightened when I marvel at her reverence for History and the preservation of both building AND landscape architecture... sigh... ♥♥♥

  3. and cups and saucers too...

How Beautiful! Places like this make me want to just stop and breathe quietly and listen to the stillness.

  5. Such a beautiful quote xx

  6. I don't know how I did it but I am back able to comment. Hoorah Alice glad you are back.
