A revised specification for MrM

Let's get something clear right at the start of this post. MrM is a blue and white shirt kind of person. Sometimes a little bit bluer than white and other times a racy white with blue stripes. For country days MrM might wear a subtle green and brown check but MrM does not wear shirts with graphic design.

I know that it is wrong to try and change your partner, you should accept them as they are and learn to love those little character flaws but how can I come to terms with the fact that I am married to a man who will never wear a shirt with ladybirds on?

MrM will remind me that he has multiple shirts with graphic designs, unusual colour combinations and slogans but I am afraid that London Irish rugby shirts cannot be included in the same category as fabulous French tailoring.

I honestly believe that if I can persuade him to let go of his prejudice he will agree to a gradual programme designed to overcome his fear. We could start with a simple shirt with black triangles for 5 minutes at a time and then build up to a subtle heart pattern. After a few months I am sure that blue swirls or pink circles would be tolerated.

I am not sure how long it would be before he could cope with girls on scooters but I think it would be worth the effort. Don't you?

  1. they are beautiful but I fear it won't work. I bought Mr D a red shirt. It stayed in it's packaging for 3 years and then it went to the charity shop. The ironing basket remains a tranquil sea of blues and whites....

  2. You can but try but you know what they say about leopards and spots.

  3. Keep trying with the ladybird one!

  4. Ah yes, blue and white shirts! We have that here, it makes the ironing very boring indeed. Some colour would make it so much more cheerful. Good luck with the ladybugs! xx

  5. I believe Fabio has one white shirt with blue stripes.
    He never wears it ...
You don't want to see what he wears.
In his defense he's a contractor, he hardly ever wears clean, REAL clothes.
    Poor guy ...

  6. Sorry, but I'm with Mr M. A shirt with ladybirds or a girl on a scooter....why? I heard once and hold with the line that you should never trust a man in a novelty tie, I think that may also apply to shirts.

  7. more of a double cuff shirt most of the time - my taste in cufflinks is a bit too exotic for MrsM in fact. Don't think you will get to see them though.

  8. Just buy them for you, that's what I'd do. In fact I did something similar once and the mister was miffed enough to retaliate by buying a snazzy shirt of his own. Might work for you too ;)

  9. K refers to those as "groovy guy" shirts and though he'll sport the occasional stripe or subtle pattern, I'm afraid bright colors and girls on scooters would elude him.
He has me on a a scooter anyway.

  10. blue and white shirts aren't all bad. My husband is a red company paint and silicon stained polo shirt kind of guy, I'm genuinely concerned for any of my clothes that go in the wash with his!

  11. My Father in law can rock the most lurid shirts with pride. I blame it on the year he spent in the USA in the 70s. Hubs has one with trout on it. And can wear a pale pink well. Though his taste in socks is pedestrian in the extreme.

  12. He shares his taste in shirts with Mr Fan My Flame. I sometimes wonder how many identical blue and white shirts a man actually needs

But what ties would go with those graphic shirts?
