I am not very good with anniversaries.
I often forget them and suffer restrospective panic
but sometimes the prospect of celebration
creates anticipatory panic.
I have been blogging for more than three years
and written nearly a thousand posts
so I am scheduled for retrospective and anticipatory angst.
I have tried to stave this off
by revisiting my favourite post

I really love this post
and yet everything about it is transient,
it would never have been written
if I had not been blogging.
I believe that it captures the essence
of what I have tried to do with my writing
over the past three years (and a bit)
and (nearly) one thousand posts.
You have made the journey with me
and lightened each day with your insight and laughter.
I thank you.
I would love to know which post on your own blog
captures the essence of your writing.

One thousand posts! You are prolific. It's obvious that writing feeds your soul. Thank you for allowing us to share your words. xx
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely. I did have a blog, but I sent it gently into that night last March, I think. I believe my favorite post was, oh, crap..it could have been the one about the moon, it could have been about my daddy, it could have been,it could have been.
ReplyDeleteYou amaze me with your words, poetry and the gifts that you share.
best, e.
Congratulations on the milestones! I'd love to let you know which of my posts I'm happiest with, but I find it hard to go back and read old posts. But occasionally I do, especially when I'm searching for a recipe I posted, or to find the date that some milestone in our lives happened. And I will say that, as much as I am unsatisfied with what I write on the day I write it, I find myself to sometimes be pleasantly surprised when I re-read a post months or years later!
ReplyDeleteBest,
N.
Moments like that are some of my favorite reasons to blog.
ReplyDeleteHere's one of my favorite posts from a very peaceful day, but one full of the type of visual images I like best: http://kolokolo.blogspot.com/2009/05/art-of-missing-someone-and-museum-visit.html
it's been such a pleasure to share your journey Alice x
ReplyDeletemy favourite post is one that makes me cry...
I was just thinking about this post the other day, because N was home and a song from one of these tapes came on the radio, and as I was thinking about that, she said, "Do you remember the tapes we used to have?" https://readersguide.wordpress.com/2008/02/25/tapes/
ReplyDeleteGoodness. One thousand! I have only just passed one hundred. I pop in here almost every day to peep at your thoughts - I look forward to it.
ReplyDeleteOne or two of my favourite posts are

Fleeting thoughts felt longer...
ReplyDeleteI suppose the Airport post captures me best.
It has been a pleasure to be taken with you along the way. Thanks for all the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteOh 1000 posts. I have a lot to catch up to do ...
ReplyDeleteAuguri!
I remember that 2008 post of yours very well - and can't believe it was two years ago!

Wow! That's a lot of prose. It's amazing how time flies.
ReplyDeleteFor me it would have to be this post last year which really did capture the mood of the moment - http://thedomesticnovice.blogspot.com/2009/03/glorious-wake-up-call.html
Here's to many more posts. C x
A thousand posts? Blimey. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI like to think of them as milestones, not anniversaries. That way, you can look forward rather than back.
ReplyDeleteI cannot, cannot get sucked down the rabbit hole that is my archive this morning. But I think my favourite posts are the ones where I opened myself up and got so so much more than I expected back from the people who travel the same road as I. Which all fits in very nicely with your post, don't you think?
Wow Alice 1000 posts...fantastic! I love reading your blog and your beautiful writing. I also love all the pictures you post as well.
ReplyDeleteAs for myself, being a new blogger there are not too many posts to choose from but I think my first post about 'Who Dun It?' and my post about my personal history 'Who am I?' probably best sum up my blog style?? :-)
I have enjoyed each and every one of your posts so far so don't worry about an anniversary. I've just looked at one of mine I liked for some of the writing here: http://dogdaisychains.blogspot.com/2008/05/miserable-day.html but mine's mostly about pics of my work...
ReplyDeleteI love looking back on my posts and am always amazed at how nostalgic I feel for the times and the pieces and yet at the time it was all very ordinary.
