One can be restrained about paeonies
and consider them elegantly disposed
upon a plate of great beauty.
Or one can heap a pile of paeonies
upon the plate
with extravagant abandon
and fall into the frills and folds
face first.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea - beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI can never ever never be restrained about peonies!
ReplyDeleteWill you cry if I tell you that I have never actually seen a real live paeony? They only exist in your beautiful photographs.
ReplyDeleteA girl can NEVER have too many paeonies. I find that I have to vie with mother nature for mine. With the paeonies, inevitably comes rain and wind, so mine are picked once they are in bloom....... and the scent...... oh the S C E N T! Mine don't find a beautiful blue and white plate, they (being white) are put in what is referred to in this house as "the school custard jug".
ReplyDeleteLuckily we can do both thanks to your fabulous photography!
ReplyDeleteBy now you all now that my favourite flower of ALL is the peony.
ReplyDeleteI am fascinated by their gentle beauty and colour and texture.
Thank you for posting them, I can't have them here so when you have them, please share them.
They are magnificent.
Thanks!
you all KNOW ...
ReplyDeleteTo me, they are some of the most beautiful of all flowers!
ReplyDeleteExquisite photos.
ReplyDeleteI can almost smell them.
I still miss the pink peonies outside my front door in Williamstown, and it's been eight years now! They really are the most beautiful flowers.

MrM is under strict instructions not to damage the paeonies when he goes past them on his way to the shed at the end of the garden.
ReplyDeleteThose are just so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love peonies.
ReplyDeleteone can and should!!
ReplyDeleteZelda Fitzgerald used to wear one in her hair. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely flowers, just like soft fluffy clouds of pinkness!
ReplyDeletei love peonies we have them dotted all round our living room they smell so pretty, fliss xx
ReplyDeleteSince I in my ignorance thought it wasspelt 'peony' it made me wonder about the meaning of the word paeon. So, now I know its a foot of verse(?) made up of four syllable..one long and three short in any oder.
ReplyDeleteBut then I discovered Paeon was the healer of the gods. Well I think they must be named after him because how could you not feel well after looking at these beautiful flowers so beautifully photographed?
Sorry for all the typing errors in that comment.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! My very favorite flower.
