It is Saturday afternoon.
MrsM and MasterM have a tactical discussion:
MrsM
If I was going to bake a cake
what sort of cake should I bake?
MasterM
What are the options?
MrsM
Obviously not Chocolate
(because of you-know-who)
MasterM
Well, in that case...
obviously not Coffee and Walnut..
MrsM
Blueberry?
MasterM
I'm over Blueberry cake
MrsM
Lemon Drizzle?
MasterM
Now you're talking my language
At this point MasterM and MrM depart
to play snooker in the local club
to allow MrsM 'creative space'.
The cake is on the plate when they return.
MasterM samples the topping.
It is too sweet.
MrsM samples the topping.
It is indeed too sweet.
In an inspired last minute substitution
the juice of half a lemon is squeezed
directly onto the crystalline topping
and it soaks into the cake
and creates a crunchy citric tingle
to counterbalance the light lemony sponge
and the zesty buttercream filling.
MasterM
Excellent result
MrsM
(modestly)
It was a team effort

Mmm! Lemon drizzle is my favorite. And this one sounds extra delicious with the lemon squeezed on top! K x
ReplyDeleteAll this talk of cakes will do my diet no good at all - get thee behind me Satan!
ReplyDeleteand creates a crunchy citric tingle
ReplyDeletecan taste it now - lovely.
Ha! Yes. Teamwork and zest distinctly lacking yesterday. Happily, you were able to rectify that.
ReplyDeleteA very topical post, beautifully executed!
ReplyDeleteCan I come over and sit in your garden for some lemon cake... with strawberries too please.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Gina. I promise we will all be well behaved, at least until after we have eaten the cake!
ReplyDeleteI like it when a cake plan comes together.
ReplyDeleteI hopped from Badger to you and I gained 5 kilos just reading your blogs! Fajitas ... muffins ... strawberries with sugar and cream ... and now lemon drizzle cake!
ReplyDeleteOY!
can I come and live with you?
ReplyDeleteI will provide tactical advise.
I'm getting hungry! Looks delicious :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd like to join your team!
ReplyDeleteperhaps I shall have to make the coffee cake myself at this rate
ReplyDeleteNow just how do you get the top that crunchy? It never seems to manage for me...
ReplyDeletex
I've been sitting on the sofa debating whether to have pudding...decision made! It looks amazing x
ReplyDeleteOh my, gilding the lily but in such a very good way.
ReplyDeleteThe more I read this blog the hungrier I get.
ReplyDeleteI also contemplate the logistics of becoming your third child on a regular basis, but that might be taking things a bit too far!
Methinks MrM is begging for a little sympathy here
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect cake! When I don't know what else can possibly be done, I can always bake a cake. Lovely to share your lemon cake with your loving team.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed, and therefore endeavouring to make no reference whatsoever to other recent English team efforts.... This from a woman whose country will never, ever, even get the chance!
