that sweet ornament

Indian carnation, viburnum,
Turkish rose and orange blossom
cardamom, coriander and cinnamon

~~~~~
MissM left her perfume behind
on the dining room table.
I look at it for a while
and then I lift the lid cautiously.
The fragrance of laughter floats out.
I know what I'm going to sniff next time I pass a department store!
Sometimes though, I love the descriptions of the ingredients even more than the scent itself.
the power of perfume...
I was working in the perfume dept of a big store and once I discovered this particular fragrance I couldn't stop 'sniffinig'.. everytime I went past. Like a magnet.
I then discovered that my mother used to wear it when I was a tiny baby....
My brother-in-law sent me some things of my late sister. The smell of her perfume took me straight back to childhood (she being many years older) watching her get ready to go out on Saturday evenings.
The list of ingredients is wonderful - so evocative.
Yes, that's exactly what it feels like, coming upon a scent, a smell that takes you straight to a person's laugh, a smile, the way they read a book while eating an apple. How beautifully put.
What a beautiful way to fragrance a room - with laughter.
Wonderful description of perfume! Surprised it's not VW's 'Naughty Alice' - 'the perfect example of modern feminity' - would seem appropriate!
