When you embark upon a Voyage of Self Discovery
it is important to have some Outward Sign
so that the world knows that you are Serious.
Having considered shaving my head
(too cold)
or wearing orange robes
(no robes of aforementioned colour)
or having a tattoo of a dragon on my neck
(too vulgar)
I decided that cake cases would be my Outward Sign.
In the past I have been Absolutist about cake cases.
I have enforced the White Only rule.
Has this made me Happy?
(Well, yes, but I must get over it.)
I have broken through
this self-imposed barrier of Fear and Ignorance
and introduced
Red cake cases
and
Yellow cake cases
and
Spotty cake cases.
Why settle for White
when there is a Rainbow of Possibilties?
(Please don't mention coloured icing...
that is the Next Level of Enlightenment
and I am Not Ready.)

Baby steps. Today, cupcake cases; tomorrow, colored icing; after that, the WORLD.
ReplyDelete(I'll hold your hand if you hold mine.)
Oh the brave step to coloured icing. Until you have eaten lime green, bright blue or eye-bursting yellow icing you haven't experienced a true sugar high. But perhaps that is not the high you are seeking...
ReplyDeleteI don't really bake, so I got the tattoo. Not a dragon, of course, but still...
ReplyDeleteYou haven't even mentioned the red jelly on top, coordinated with the red dots on the paper...

.
easy, now.
Gosh! How does one resist the offer above? Will you still write posts when you have made your fortune in affiliated publishing?
ReplyDeleteI have long been committed to a policy of equal opportunity paper case usage. just last Sunday I was gifted silver AND gold cases. I would find the simplicity of white only too zen.
Oh the path to Enlightenment is challenging, non?
Well if that isn't a Sign I don't know what is. The next level of Enlightenment ...oh! It's gone. Back to the cupcakes then. Probably for the best.
ReplyDeleteyou little divil you - I wish I had your courage :o)
ReplyDeleteYou know. My first shopping when I travel to NY is coloured sugar sprinkles because when I bake, it's all about the colour.
ReplyDeleteHow funny is that.
Paola
Bb, dear. a tattoo? What! Where! How!
You know, chocolate brown cases look very sophisticated. Particularly with a subtle pistachio colour frosting.
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy to give you endless places to shop for your new found enlightenment!
I too have been using only white cupcake cases lately, despite having stacks of colored ones. But now I shall follow your lead and endeavor to be more colorful...though I still insist on wearing my gray sweaters! K x
ReplyDeletewe are doing pastel colours here at them moment. it could be because that's all we have though, not really a concious style choice...
ReplyDeleteRemember that journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step... I wore my pink tights this week!
ReplyDeleteYou are flirting with danger now............
ReplyDeleteThe question is, do they taste any different?
ReplyDeleteI thought of your white only sensibilities when the boys were baying for a more and more lurid shade of green on their 'cupcakes for Haiti' efforts last night
When it comes to cupcakes I'm happy to embrace all possibilities!
ReplyDeleteThat one looks particularly delicious so I'd say go with it. Wherever your journey takes you, at least you won't be hungry.
You rock Alice! When you DO start to tint your icing, my advice is to start, and stop, with pale pink. There really is no reason to go overboard. I am savoring my last pastel Hundreds and Thousands from a trip to London in 1999! They are wonderfully beautiful, although some real purists in my house do not care for the crunch factor. Lovely cupcake!
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks delicious.I too have always been reserved with my cake cases and icing but as I'm getting older I'm beginning to think what the hell go for it!
ReplyDeleteSue
But the red gumdrop -- surely that is nearly as radical as red icing. I feel you are making some serious steps here. Hmm. What next? (I think a tattoo would hurt, too -- something to consider.)
ReplyDeleteWhat about red cake?
ReplyDeleteSlow down, Alice. I'm getting dizzy. Next thing you know, you'll be adding sprinkles--->CRAZY.
ReplyDeleteand what are your kids saying about all this?? and the husband?? will the recognise you when they come home?
ReplyDeletefirst the pottery... then the cupcake cases...
(I approve, by the way)
I do believe I have the same packet of cases in my baking drawer. For some reason the spotty dotty ones are always used first and the red ones are always rejected.
ReplyDeleteWhat about white icing mixed with a little berry juice? Another colourful baby step, that has added antioxidants.
ReplyDeleteHow have I only ever seen white cup cake cases before? That's it - I'm going to have to go on a shopping mission tomorrow to rectify that situation!
ReplyDeleteNext it is time to embrace the silicone casings: they come in multiple pastel colours, solids and patterns. And they are reusable. And don't imbue your food with Red Dye #57.
ReplyDeleteN.
hhhmmm...yes, it is official, i am in love with your blog.
