MissM, 18.

MissM has brought us joy
from the moment that she was born

On Saturday we braved gale force winds
to celebrate her birthday.
It was difficult to know what to give her
because she always assures us
that she doesn't need anything
but there was a laptop for A Level essays
and an antique gold heart-shaped locket;
a teacosy which she had aspired to
for her much-loved teapot
and a little Japanese charm doll
which promises luck and prettiness.

And a huge bunch of flowers.
Of course.

  3. It is I who need the little Japanese doll, as I am feeling rather wilted of late (although admittedly not luckless). From all that you have told us, Miss M already is a beauty and a brain...and lucky, of course, because she has the lovely and talented YOU for a mother.

    (Happiest of b-days, Miss M!!)

P.S. Word verif is "tartcorn." Whatever can it mean?

  9. Having a penchant for teapots and tea cosies at age 18 augurs very well for the future - she sounds like a very sensible girl who is destined for great things. I am afraid that at age 18 I had a red sequinned boob tube, purple shiny lycra trousers, and feathers and ribbons in my hair - and I certainly didn't understand how to make a cup of tea; in short, I was a bit of an airhead. You have obviously been a very good mother, and I hope you all had a lovely day in spite of the interesting weather.

  13. I was going to write something along similar lines to Pomona re teapots and tea cosies........
However, she beat me to it, so I shall wish Miss M a wonderful birthday. Having obviously missed out earlier in life, I think I shall have to don a red sequinned boobtube and shiny purple lycra trousers for my 60th...... ("When I'm old I shall wear purple")
