a single rose

one day I discovered
that a single rose
on my bedside table
gives pleasure
out of all proportion
to the cost.

I see the rose
last thing at night and
first thing in the morning.

for a fleeting second
I focus on shape
and colour.

floral meditation.

it works for me.

  4. oh yes yes yes yes yes, it works for me too!!
I've got 3 very similar pink roses in a glass jar (ex M&S horseradish) next to my bed at the moment and they delight me more than I can say.

  5. And what about the scent? It seems roses smell wonderful, or like nothing at all. It is beautiful and I share the same sentiment, a pittance for the pleasure.

  6. trade secret time - when I was an impoverished student (I've now progressed to impoverished parent) I could only afford a single rose which I thought would rate as more symbolic.

The special offer on chocolate bars from the buttery kept in my duffel coat pocket was a useful backup.
